PROTECT PUBLIC HIGHER EDUCATION
Since the beginning of 2025, UAW has been leading the way in the fight to protect the University against attacks from the Trump administration. UAW members have made significant progress through mass rallies, lobby visits, lawsuits, and town halls with congresspeople that have led to the reinstatement of tens of millions of dollars in funding for the University. After unrelenting advocacy from thousands of UAW members, state legislators eliminated the proposed 8% cut to UC and restored full funding at a time it is most needed. Following this, the UC finally announced that non-union staff would receive a wage adjustment this year, ending an unsettling period of uncertainty.
To continue fighting back against Trump’s assault on research and education, more higher education workers are joining the movement. It’s going to take all of us, not just the already unionized employees, to protect and advance our jobs in higher education. Joining UAW means amplifying your voice to help set a pro-worker, pro-education agenda in the California statehouse and in Washington, DC.
